Interact with folders and files

There is so much you can do with your folders and files, let's walk through a few of the options.

Some of the actions on this page require a project manager or admin role.

View file details

Click on a file in your list, and you will see details and metadata for the file in your right sidebar, along with a thumbnail preview. You can double-click on the file in the list, or click on the thumbnail preview to open the source file in your browser.

Selecting multiple files

You can hold down Shift to select ranges of files, or Ctrl to select multiple files individually.

Selecting multiple files will come in handy when you want to download a handful of files, or perform some bulk action from the toolbar.

Toolbar

At the top of the file list, you'll see a handful of toolbar actions.

These actions operate on whatever you have selected.

  • When no files are selected, the toolbar actions operate on the current folder you are in.
  • When one file is selected, the toolbar actions operate on the selected file.
  • When multiple files are selected, the toolbar actions operate on all selected files. (Some actions will be disabled).

Actions

The first toolbar action is the Add button. Click this to upload more files, or create a sub-folder. Note you can also drag and drop more files onto the page to upload as well.

The next four actions are for retrieving, organizing, and sharing your files.

1) Download

Download the entire current folder or selected file(s). If one file is selected it will be downloaded as a single file. If you are downloading the whole folder or multiple file selections, a zip will be generated with the requested files.

2) Pin

Click this action to pin the selected file to the current folder sidebar, project overview page, or account dashboard. You can also pin the current folder to the project overview page or account dashboard.

3) Add to collection

This action will bring up a window where you can select a current collection, and the current folder or selected file(s) will be added to the collection.

4) Share

You can generate a public, unique share link for the current folder or selected file. Click this action, create the shared link, and copy it. You can send the link to anyone outside of Hivebase, and the recipient will be able to download the specific folder/file you shared.

The last toolbar action is a drop-down menu with common filesystem actions:

The actions available in this menu will depend on whether you are acting on the current folder, one selected file, or a group of selected files.

Sub-folders

You can have as many sub-folders as you'd like. Click on Add, and then New sub-folder.

Once you create sub-folders you can click into the sub-folder and upload files, or select existing files and copy or move.
